Fill up on creative discoveries in an enchanting setting
July 7th to August 20th 2023
Val-David, June 1st 2023. – Canada's largest ceramic event is back for its 34th edition. The 2023 edition will be held from July 7 to August 20, 2023 in the heart of the village of Val-David. This outdoor gathering, which annually welcomes over 100 ceramists from Quebec and elsewhere, offers visitors a total immersion in the world of ceramics.
In addition to the exhibitors, visitors will discover various sculptural works, as well as an ephemeral section for ceramists presenting smaller productions. The presence of established artists in creative residency, ceramic demonstrations, musical, poetic and theatrical performances will be present again this year.
A rich program for all
Courses and training
Once again this year, courses and workshops will be offered to the public. Children will have their first experience with ceramics thanks to the introductory courses in hand-building offered on Saturdays and Sundays. Throughout the exhibition, adults will also be able to take advantage of wheel throwing classes, either in the form of an intensive week or a one-hour initiation on weekends.
Artists in residence
In order to support the creation and development of the practice, 1001 Pots welcomes every year artists in residence throughout the season. The public is invited to come and meet them in order to discover their art and their practice. Ceramist Isabelle Simard will be present at the exhibition site from July 17 to 21 and Eve-Marie Laliberté from August 7 to 11.
Empty bowls
It is also the return of the participation of 1001 Pots' ceramists and visitors to the "Empty Bowls" movement. The community's ceramists will make bowls that will be available to the public to decorate [August 5 and 6]. These bowls will then be sold in the fall to raise funds for the Val-David food bank. "Empty Bowls” is a grassroots movement led by artists and artisans from around the world.
Performances & concerts
Once again this year, 1001 Pots will groove on Saturday afternoons to the sound of Jazz sessions [several performances on Saturdays between 2 and 6 pm], as well as classical music performances. To the delight of young and old, the exhibition site will host for a third consecutive year, puppet theater and masked play performances as part of the 1001 Patentes qui Bougent festival, which will take place in the heart of the village of Val-David and on the enchanting site of the 1001 Pots [August 1 to 6].
Opening night
As tradition dictates, the Fireflies' Ball will kick off the event where, illuminated by candles and lulled by the sound of ambient music, the site will become, for the duration of the evening, a warm and enchanted world [July 7].

About 1001 Pots
Created in 1989 by Kinya Ishikawa, the summer exhibition 1001 Pots highlights the excellence of contemporary Quebec ceramics. Located in the heart of the Laurentians, the exhibition showcases the wonders of local artisans and gives visitors the opportunity to acquire them. Since 2021, Sacha Ghadiri and Nouchine Dardachti have taken over the reins of the event. Welcoming annually close to one hundred Quebec artisans and offering educational, recreational and leisure activities, 1001 Pots is more than an exhibition, it is the largest ceramic event in Canada.
